Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Very easy to use and install. Outstanding features that make this the one to own.

Weakness: None observed.

Identification distance is superior.(verified through real world usage) The digital voice , alert tones and visual display all function as described by the manufacturer. I have and currently do own other detectors and would rate this unit number 1.I recommend this model as the one to buy if you want the best !

Beltronics RX 65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Detects every band of radar used for speed detection, 3 modes of displaying radar (standard, technical, and threat display), sleek look, full 360 degree detection, owner manual very easy to understand

Weakness: SWS is a great idea, but I've never been in an area that's sent out SWS signals; obviously not a flaw of the radar detector itself, just that this SWS warning system should be more widespread!

A really great detector, top of the line in all ways, yet easy to operate. It has saved me several speeding tickets already on highway driving, including once where laser (which is notoriously difficult to detect) was being used at fairly short range! Certainly worth it's price (which CAN be found for less than $329 on one website) in savings on speeding tickets!

Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Easy to use Easy to find MUTE button Good Range Nice programmability

Weakness: A little big. Why can't they make a remote version with the same capabilities that doesn't cost $1K?!?!

Haven't had enough opportunity to test it's full range and sensitivity. That being said it appears to work very well detecting all bands. Easy to identify when it's X-band and discount the alarm. The voice is amusing but that can be truly annoying in city areas with all the alarm systems.
Love the programmability! Don't want to hear the voice or don't want to even know about X-band - then go ahead and program it that way!
This really is the Escort Passport 8500 X50! I went with the Beltronics primarily because I could find the complementary Beltronics LaserPro 905 Laser Defense System for a lot less than the Passport version. Total cost of ownership was a lot lower. Remember if you don't have a laser defense system, all a laser detector does is tell you that you're going to get a ticket...
Same warranty for either so not concerned if there is a reliability issue (none so far).

Beltronics RX 65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Can program off noisy power on sequence, can choose threat display or standard signal strength. Good at removing extraneous noise, has dark mode for night driving, voice alerts(programable off or on)

Weakness: pricey

Works well with the K band in my town. The alerts went off well within a half mile of two separate police cars with radar on my first twenty minute drive with the pro RX65. Can eventually program off radar bands not desired (Ku(European radar and satellite dishes)X,K,Ka,POP,LSR, SWS (Safety Warnings)

Beltronics RX 65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Sensitive, great range, construction, features, adjustability, voice, mute button on lighter plug adapter

Weakness: Sensitive, noisy, false alarms, little bulky (same as most)

My first detector in 1985 was a cheap Uniden that caught false alarms all the time, then around 1989 I stepped up to a Whistler Spectrum 2SE which was dead silent except when there was an actual threat, which it championed at following from a very long range, but it didn't have Laser detection so I reluctantly replaced it with another Whistler near their top of the line around 1998 (yes the 2SE was still going strong and still is today for my brother). The new Whistler (sorry, cannot remember the model) was too noisy for my liking and the woman's voice they selected for warnings irritated me, so I sold it cheap and started researching heavily for the best overall detector I could find, cost was (almost) no object.

After a couple months of research, testing and debate, I almost ordered the Valentine 1, but the Bel beat it out (in my mind) and at about this time last year I finally settled on the Bel Pro RX65. I can't say I had a positive first impression because on all defaults and autoscan mode the thing was chirping away full blast the whole way back to the office from the authorized dealer (yes, I paid full retail for the unit the month is was released to market). By the time I got to the parking lot of my building I had already unplugged it because it was just going crazy picking up every little thing. After reading through the manual and performing some tweaks (and TURNING OFF laser detection altogether), it finally quieted down a little. But, I still spend much of my driving time reaching down to hit mute before the next set of chirps drives me insane.

I thought it would be much better on the open road. This last summer when I took my family on a 2400-mile trip, it definitely was quieter, but the false alarms hardly ceased. I'd find myself getting comfortable with the sound of the road then almost jump out of my seat from the extremely loud and urgent pulse warning. This happened regularly even in the middle of nowhere and kept waking up my sleeping baby in the back seat, even on low volume.

Still, I don't drive without the extra "set of eyes" of a radar detector. Even when I'm not speeding, I just like knowing what's around me and if someone is checking me out, hoping I'm doing something wrong, like cops do. That said, every time there was a legitimate police laser or radar signal, this puppy picked it up with an unbeatable range (none of my previous units came close). I got used to its range and found myself NOT stomping on the break every time it goes off (you know, *just incase*), as I'm sure most of us have done with every other radar detector. This thing gives me plenty of time to look down and make sure I'm not accidentally speeding and adjust calmly... except when pulse warning goes off -- never know where the culprit is, if it exists at all.

It does what it does well, but is still too sensitive to non-police signals. The false alarms in the city are almost constant. It drives me nuts some times. But, I'm not about to get rid of it. The positive aspects ensure that I do know when there is a police signal and gives me plenty of time to react. I just wonder, what happened to radar detector technology from the gool ol' Whistler Spectrum 2SE days. Where did the "no false alarms" features go? I gotta' say, I do miss that very much.

Thank you. There is nothing worse than a detector that cries wolf. I had problems with my old Passport 8500 and went to buy a Bell. The old 645 STI was one of my favorites. After reading a bunch of rewiews I bought the new 8500 X-50. It is quiet, especially after turning off X band (there is no X in Texas). My little brother has the Valentine and it never shuts up. He got a X-50 for his wife who knows nothing about radar, but speeds all the time. She is ticketless with the X-50. I would recommend it since it and the Pro are so close in range. I am a pro truck driver and have had many different detectors. Nothing since the first Escort has ever come close to the X-50, which does not cry wolf.

The 8500 x50 and RX65 are the same detector-- Escort bought Bel over two years ago: http://www.radarbusters.com/support/product-tests/radar-detector-recommendations.asp.

The RX65 if fully programmable so you probably just need to tinker with it more. Good luck.

Over a year, plenty of "tinkering" and still false alerts regularly. My drive to/from work, I've memorized where the falses start and hit the "mute" button as if orchestrated. No change to my original review. It's a great detector, but (like all others) doesn't filter totally.

Beltronics RX 65 Radar Detector

Strengths: It is an order of magnitude better that my previous detector (an Escort). I have had no false alarms either.

Weakness: None so far

The old detector (Escort) didn't detect the roadside speed displays until I was on top of them. Now I detect them before they are visible. The ability to display the different bands saved me last week. There was a K-band speed display running, but I picked up a tiny pip of Ka-band. I slowed down, and over the hill was a motorcycle cop who blasted me with instant-on radar. If you can't trust a radar detector, it is neigh-on to useless. I trust the Bel RX65

Chillin on the HWY and Lovin it !

Strengths: Good sensitivity and range of detection Can use overseas Small indicator on the charger facilitate operating(don't have to reach all the way to the detector itself.

Weakness: Expensive Not a scientific test, but sometimes the unit (city mode) seems to give false K band alarms too easily near banks etc.. But maybe all manufacturers do that ??(I can't compare).

This BEL RX65 has picked up every single incident out there so far. It has made driving on the highways much more relaxing.

Sometimes appears to give off a few too many false alarms in city mode, but that may not be any worse than other top brands (I have nothing to compare against).

It has a solid build and great features that put the owner at peace of mind. Recommend highly!

Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Strengths: Excellent detection distance and notification

Weakness: uses RJ11 Phone plug for power

Great detector! Easy to mount and remove. Nice color and easy to use options and features. Nice case for transportation, and the included cigarette lighter power plug has ability to mute the unit without reaching up.

Bel RX65

Strengths: Locates police. Has allowed me to determine which radar band my local police use. With this I can determine when slowing down is unnecessary. Very few falses, and when it does I know which are which d

Weakness: Only weakness I have discovered is I find myself hunting for the radar i.e. I can't tell where it is coming from. The Bel is so good at detecting radar that it can pick it up for miles which gets me l

Over all I am very satisfied with this detector. I had a Valentine One but it went off all the time (at every fast food restaraunt).
I have started calling the Bel RX65 my "speedometer".
Considering I tend to cruise at 100+ mph on the highway having a good detector is of the utmost importance. On one occasion I got lucky as a motorcycle officer was using an "instant on" Ka band radar, I just saw him and hit the brakes an instant before the detector went off. Very close but I was weaving around a semi at the time. It was probably my fault.
Anyway, if you drive fast and are currently considering a detector, I highly recommend this one. I understand the passport is equal to the Bel so buy what you like but if you want to be warned of mostly police and not fast food then one of these two is preferred.

Beltronics Pro RX65 Excellent Quality, Range, and...

Strengths: Detects police from as far as 10 miles away and farther! Good quality construction ensure durability. High mounting (as close to the top of the winsdhield as possible)= ecellent detection for hills.

Weakness: Does false on X band when city driving (Highly recommend turning it off as I did). Other than that perfecto!

I began using this detector on May 3rd, 2006 and already I am seeing the heart-attack difference from my Cobra XRS 9430 (Crap!) I mounted this detector as close and as high as humanly possible right under the rear view mirror to insure superior detection with hills and curves. I own a 1999 Camry LE for those wondering. The first hours and I mean hours it detected a total of 6 police cars and out of that it picked up 4, but don't be dismayed because i have a strong feeling that the other two cars didn't have radar or laser capabilities (at least I didn't see any such devices in their car. When approaching hills be warned that you will only get a level 1 or 2 until you are right on the top then it goes to level 9. On curves it picked up a level 4/9 on the KA band and come to find out it was not a false alert (No false alerts on any K or KA bands to this point) When I got within 1 mile of the car it went to level 9 and because I slowed down at the level 4 warning it was minutes of reaction time. On straight ways it surpasses all others it detected at stopped police car off to the left from get this 13 miles away! And as for rear detection after I passed the cop it did not decrease from level 9 until I was about 3.7 miles away from it! Overall this is a superior detector that in my opinion does what it says it does and does it with flying colors. Price is an issue for most but do what I did and save for the detector and get the 2 yr extended warranty it will save you in the long run! Overall rating 9.7 out of a 10!

Beltronics PRO RX65

Strengths: This detector is one of the best i have owned,it has great sensitivity and pickup, picks up all the latest bands.Auto volume control automatically lowers volume when a signal is detected.

Weakness: None to report

The Bel pro rx65 is one of the best on the market.I get fewer false readings than i have with other detectors. When this one goes off you can bet within 2 miles you are going to find the source.I have yet to be suprised or caught off guard since purchasing this unit unlike others that may not go off until it is too late.I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a top of the line detector.

Beltronics RX 65 Radar Detector

Strengths: 1. Ease of use. 2. Programming. 3. Sensitivity to all bands. 4. Remote mute button is nice. 5. Size. 6. LED is very visible.

Weakness: Occasional false pop band is annoying. Lack of dial volume.

I love this RX-65. With my old radar detector I got three tickets in one week- (my old detector never made a sound). I was unaware that radar gun technology changed and my old detector was unable to detect the new bands. This RX-65 warns me about all bands. I feel protected with this new detector. I recommend this detector to anyone. It is worth every penny.

True Owner

Strengths: This radar Det. is great I bought one for all three cars. Picks up Laser quickly as well as K band Ka Band and X Band.

Weakness: So far I havent found any except that the suction cups some times let lose but that could be due to glass being very cold.

I love this machine, after seeing what a simple speeding ticket can do to your Insurance even if only 3 miles over, I won't leave home with out one in any of our cars!

The machine has saved us six times in the last month and two of those were Laser shootings.

We drive over 60,000 miles in a year for our job, this is a good machine.

So far happy, didnt get any speeding tickets yet :)

It is easy to use, quick to set up, plug it in and it works. Pretty good detection. I dont know how to compare it to other products out there but I think it works pretty good.

In the auto mode picks a lot of false alarms in the K band, I didnt have a chance to see if I can program it to decrease the sensitivity.

beltronics makes a great product

Strengths: early warnings, no false alarms so far, ease of use

Weakness: none so far

Best radar detector I have purchased to date..well worth the price. I purchased one of the earlier models years ago for my brother and always liked his. Decided after reading and reviewing this one that this would be the one I would buy. Got tired of the cheapo's always breaking. Won't need another now for a long time.

Good solid detector - I couldn't expect any more...

Strengths: The unit works. ID's the signal and voice announces what band it is. Sound and display intensity adjustable. Looks great, not just cheap plastic but a heavy weight solid unit.

Weakness: Only had the curly cord for the lighter. Needs a hardwire with it which I purchased separately

I like this unit. It is not cheaply built. Can do a lot more than I ask it to do. I set it for low light display and medium low sound. It has picked up a lot of X and K band signals but on city position, a few are screened out. You can mute if the alert bothers you too much but it self mutes after a bit. It catches Ka signals from a long way down the road and even just before the crest of a hill or full bend in a turn. Good advance notice. I purchased a direct wire cord for it and then velcroed the unit to my dash within easy reach. I highly recommend this unit after having owned several cheap junk ones.

great detector!

Strengths: very few false alarms. early detection, works extremely well.

Weakness: lack of directional arrow pointing toward the source.

I really like the RX65. It's range seems very good, although this is the only radar detector I have ever owned. I like the voice function telling you what radar band it is detecting. It comes in handy when it detects a signal, but driving conditions demand your full attention. The auto mute is also another handy feature, as is the mute button on the smart plug (or whatever it's called). Sometimes however, it will detect a signal, and if you are in a busy area, you can't figure out where the signal is coming from. A directional arrow would be a nice additional feature.

Best Radar

Saved me many times. It is a little over sensitive, but I guess that will save my butt in the long run. Laser works great too, it gives you a little time to slow down.
