HP JETDIRECT LIO 200MM Print Server...

Strengths: Works Great on LAN with scan features built in.

Weakness: None.

I purchased this Print Server for my HP Office Jet 7130 and it has never let me down yet. It allows for remote connections and monitoring of ink levels, # of pages printed, and Scanning. Works Excellent with the HP All in One Software, all features that are available through USB are still available through LAN. I recommend it to anyone with an HP AIO Printer.

Works fine on wireless net with my d135

Strengths: Easy to install.

Weakness: Had to uninstall my d135 software and re-install. Somehow disabled my Shared Documents folder on my desktop, probably not related...

I have a 2-year old Gateway desktop PC (3GHz screamer) with an HP d135 all-in-one, previously connected via USB to my desktop, but wanted to connect it to my wireless network router (link-sys), so I could print from two other laptops. Generic print servers from linksys and other places would work with my d135 only if I was willing to live without multi-functions, such as fax and scan. Not good.

I was just about to purchase a new network-ready printer from HP when I came across the jetdirect 200m. I emailed HP and asked them if it would work for me. I received an email reply within 12 hours, and on a Sunday, which included a link to an HP support web page that gave me all the gory details. I was very impressed, frankly didn't expect them to respond at all, leave alone on a Sunday!

I found it on-line through Computer Giants for about half what HP was asking, and it arrived 2 days after I ordered it (I live in SoCal, which is where C.G. ships from).

Within about 5 minutes I had read the instructions and installed the unit in the LIO port on back of my d135. Very easy.

The instructions told me to use my original printer install disk, but I wasn't able to get it to do anything other than tell me the software was already installed. So I tried removing and adding the printer, no dice.

Finally I uninstalled the printer software and re-installed. During the install process it was able to locate the printer on the network, and everything else went very smoothly.

I was then able to install the printer software on my laptop (HP pavillion), and it was able to find the printer on the wireless network on the 2nd attempt. I think the first time I may have been out of wireless range, that's been a problem for me...

Somewhere along the line I disabled my Shared Documents folder on my desktop, so need to figure out what I did. I don't think it was related to the print server install.
