nice speakers, nice price, but VERY awkward on/off...

Strengths: speakers sound great - and there are only TWO of them; nice price (especially with a rebate)

Weakness: on-off switch is in a very very very awkward place on the back of one of the speakers where it is hard to reach; adapter for interface to a "normal" stereo system is not very useful

I got these speakers originally to use with my little bookshelf stereo in my office since one of its speakers has gone bad. I didn't want to get some new system with multiple little speakers and a big bass box - for my office, two speakers are plenty. However, it was really hard to get these T40's to work with the stereo using the included adapter, which was just a little one-piece mp3-jack-to-dual-RCA-plug thing that didn't work with my stereo. I would have had to get some other adapter, and it just didn't seem worth the hassle.

So, I changed how I was going to use them and I now have them on my nightstand by my bed and use them at night with my mp3 player. They sound great and the only hassle with them now is that I have to have them positioned so I can reach around behind one of the speakers to get to the on-off switch, which is very awkwardly placed behind the rather large speaker. I don't have a clue WHY Creative put the on-off switch on the back, instead of on the front, as they did with my other set of Creative speakers. I'm actually finding this to be pretty annoying.

Other than that, I love how these sound - to me they sound as good as some other "regular" speakers I have that are a lot bigger. I also like how I can adjust the sound with the controls on the front (yes, the front!) of the speakers.

For me, I DO regard the location of the on-off switch as a major problem, given the way I use them, but if you don't care about that, these are a great pair of speakers, and if you watch for a good sale or a rebate, they can be nicely priced too.

One last note, they are a bit bigger and heavier than I expected, so if space is an issue for you, check the specs carefully before you buy.

Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 | Black

The Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 are a pair of true two-way speakers with a midrange driver composed out of high-tech woven glass fiber. A downgrade from the GigaWorks HD50, the T20 offers a reduced peak power output of 56w (versus 62w) and nominal power output of 28w (versus 36w). The T20, however, includes both an audio in-line and a headphone jack (versus just an audio in-line jack). The T20...

Creative GigaWorks T40 Speaker System Review

The Creative GigaWorks T40 speaker system is a great solution for people looking for an upgrade to the lousy stock speakers that came with their PC. With a street price of around $125 in many places, the GigaWorks T40 speakers deliver great sound without taking up too much space on your desktop.
