3 Star ReviewPerfect starter digital camera for the kids.
Strengths: Cheap and small!
Weaknesses: Cheap and small!
Summary: Always the quandary for parents is wanting the kids to be able to take their own digital photographs. As well, parents do not want to spend a fortune to let their kids do so. Argus comes to the rescue on both points with the DC1512 Digital Camera. At 3.25 inches wide, 2 inches high and 3/4 of an inch thick, this camera is perfect for little hands. One button on the back turns the camera on, and another on the top takes the picture. The camera goes into very low power consumption "sleep mode" after 30 seconds of inactivity, so the 3 included "AAA" batteries will last a bit longer. As might be expected, the camera is subject to a fair amount of "blur," so the subjects and photographer need to hold still. With 2 MB of memory, there is plenty of space for the little ones to play with, without messing with separate memory cards. The 320x240 resolution will limit the end use of the images to email and small prints. Currently, the camera ships with ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4, which is good starter software for resizing the pictures and other minor imaging tasks. Along with the mentioned batteries and software, there is a useful printed manual and an easily broken wrist "lanyard" as well. For the price and quality, the Argus DC1512 is an acceptable "entry level" digital camera, especially for the budding photographers in the family.
