Magellan Explorist 100 Portable Navigator

Strengths: Excellent price, quality construction, large display, easy to use, extremely accurate (WAAS enabled)

Weakness: Takes a while to lock onto satellites from a cold start (approx 2 minutes), no maps, no dataport

I researched dozens of GPSr units here at pricegrabber. I spoke with a lot of friends and compared this unit to other brands on the market. Ultimately, I bought this unit because of the price. I have used it for 4 geocaches and the accuracy is great. It is easy to enter waypoints. I wish it had a dataport and maps.

Magellan Explorist 100 Portable Navigator

Strengths: Inexpensive, Good position accuracy, Easy to navigate the menus

Weakness: Not a lot of bells and whistles

Very reasonably priced, appears to be well built, and performs very well. As long as you know that it is limited in its functions there is no reason not to like this unit. It's a great choice for a first-time GPS receiver.

One of the first things I did was go to a favorite site, www.summitpost.org, and look up the Lat/Long for some area mountains. The lat/long. coordinates were in a different format than my GPS, however, I was able to switch the Lat/ Long. on...
