Symantec Norton Ghost v.14.0

A solid piece of backup software

Strengths: user-friendly, reputation

Weakness: none so far

Any computer users should back up their data as hard drive failures are not uncommon. Norton Ghost allows users to back up their data easily with an ergonomically designed user interface. I would highly recommend this product to those with valuable data on their computers.

excellent software

Strengths: excellent system recovery disk

Weakness: none

I upgraded my system with norton ghost 14 from version 12 and I am happy with it. It is working very nicely with my vista operating system, e.g. no hang-up issue. This version is very much the same with version 12 except it was built specifically for vista.

It works if you are willing to put up with bugs and errors

Strengths: It installs easily and so far the features are intuitive and work well

Weakness: -this product is slow, bloated, and only half as functional as early versions

When I first installed Ghost it let me know at once that I had a
problem with my RAM. Instead of the 518 MB I had last week, it
detected 448 MB. A quick check of my system shows that Ghost was
correct although there apparently is a bug that can cause the RAM to
show less. I think that probably having the minum RAM necessary is a
bad idea. It allowed me to complete the install but warned me that
certain resources may not work due to the RAM issue.

I then ran the driver validation and discovered that two of my drivers
were not available in the Symantic, one was a USB Linksys Wireless-G
USB network adapter. The second was a Packet Scheduler Miniport.
Neither essential to getting a computer up and running after a disaster
so I save the log as text file to deal with later.

I'm not going through all of the various parts of the program because
there are a lot of features, but I would urge everyone who buys this to
check the Read.me file for known bugs and conflicts.

One of the best system clone/backup soft in the market!

Strengths: Very Stable. User Friendly. Nice new GUI. Supports FTP.

Weakness: Still need the CD when doing the system recovery.

I bought this 14.0 version to replace my old Norton Ghost 10.0. Its GUI looks much better than its predecessor. The installation is a breeze. You just need to follow the wizard. The configuration is like a breeze, very easy to do. I don't see significant speed improvement compare with version 10.0 though. I used Ghost for more than 5 years. I knew there are other softwares which can do the same...

I knew there are other softwares which can do the same or even more things. However, the reason I pick it up is that it's very stable. Especially when you are doing a system backup, picking up a stable software is the most important IMO. Highly recommend to computer manias who often upgrade computers.

Ghost 14

Strengths: proven backup software, easy recovery from system problems (provided you did backup when there was no problems)

Weakness: Inability to do backups when booted from the CD disc

I use ghost for years to make backup of my system disc to be able quickly recover when needed (and I surely do need it often), but I am disappointed there is no backup function when booted from CD Norton Ghost 14, I might finally give up and move to different product from different company.
