Mine Doesn't Work and Customer Support is a JOKE!

Weakness: Crashes often NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT

After one week the Readynas crashed again, so called customer support with the same run-around. Now after contacting customer support over six times they are unwilling to even exchange the Readynas. My last case number was 9087641.

Best NAS for the money

Strengths: Expandable, included BitTorrent client, 1-touch backup from USB devices, very cool & quiet for home use.

Weakness: Admin panel just a touch on the rough side but if you are a competent computer user, you'll make it.

I've read a lot about these storage devices and didn't think much of them in the beginning. Figured I could build one for less, however it would have been a headache. This little guy doesn't have much of a footprint and is feature packed.

I can stream iTunes to my notebook while watching HD videos on the PS3, download BitTorrent files in the background and still share with other computers in my LAN for hosting files. Basically, this is a personal media server for home for central storage as a network drive. Let's not forget the data protection of RAID with an additional drive.

NETGEAR makes a 3 flavors; 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB, however they're all exactly the same with the exception of the one provided drive. Trust me, buy the 500GB then buy two 1TB drives for less than what you can buy the 1TB model alone for.

Sure, these aren't exactly cheap but compared to what could happen if your standalone external USB HDD failed along with all of the capabilities that this unit includes, it is well worth the money.

It strikes a fine balance between reliability, performance, feature-richness, and price that fits very, very well with the home-user market. Although it's not for every home, it certainly is targeted towards more advanced home users with multiple computers and lots of media.

Excellent Network Storage Device

Strengths: Well built, Powerful software, Very close to be a professional class NAS. Hot swappable disks. Operating system on flash ram instead of disk. Good overall implementation

Weakness: Software a little hard to master, in particular the group and user management features is not very intuitive. Only 256MB of on board memory however it can be upgraded.

I bought this to replace a Buffalo Live station that went bad and had to send back for repair and I am impressed by the implementation of this little server. It is way better then the Buffalo for just a little over the price. I bought it from Newegg with an extra 500GB HD to have full redundancy (RAID 0) for $430.00 and it is worth every penny. I now have a place were to store every important...

It is way better then the Buffalo for just a little over the price. I bought it from Newegg with an extra 500GB HD to have full redundancy (RAID 0) for $430.00 and it is worth every penny. I now have a place were to store every important file music collection etc. that is fully redundant without the need to back up every day. The built in FTP, HTTP/S and multimedia servers built in are very handy and work as advertised.
